Gala Seller Who Gave All His Goods To Prisoners In Lagos Shares that “He Was Once A Prisoner”

ibere

Ibere Ugochukwu Last month, went viral for his act of kindness when he was seen sharing the goods he sells (Gala) to prisoners being transported in a Nigeria Prison Force van heading to Ikoyi Prison.

As usual, the prisoners stretched out their hands through the tiny holes by the sides of the van and the Gala seller’s next action surprised everyone. He took the Gala he was selling and began distributing to the prisoners for free. When the van began moving, he dropped his basket by the side of the road, grabbed a handful of Gala and ran after them to make sure everyone gets a share.

Recently, the Humans of New York, an online platform known for sharing inspiring posts, caught up with him and he shared his own story. He revealed that he was once a prisoner who was sent to prison by a wicked boss.

Below is his touch story:

”A few years ago I worked as an apprentice in a cosmetics shop. I was supposed to receive a payment at the end of my term. But I was warned by the other employees that the owner would find a reason not to pay me. He’d always invent reasons to fire his boys right before their payment. So I made the decision to quit. But when I told him, he dragged me to the police. He told them lies about me. He told them I’d stolen so much money. And they tortured me. They tied my hands and legs and they hung me from the ceiling. They beat me. I went deaf from all the slaps.

For ten days I was given no food. My fellow prisoners would share little bits of their meals when they were finished. But some days I saw nothing. Honestly I was about to die. And I started to pray to God. And on the tenth day, the guards decided that it would cause too much trouble to let me die. They told my employer: After what we did to him, he must be innocent. Because he’d have confessed if he was guilty.

They released me into the world like a madman. And I’ve carried the memory ever since. I promised myself that if I ever found someone in a similar situation, I would help. So when I learned that prisoners pass down this road, I chose to hawk in this location. I waited until I finally saw the truck, and I pushed all my food through the bars. My fellow vendors couldn’t believe it. They asked me who would pay me for the food. I told them: ‘I didn’t do it for any man. I did it because of what God did for me. Ibere hopes to enter the seminary one day. He’s selling food to save money for this goal, as well as to support his family back in the village. In the meantime he wants to open his own shop selling foodstuffs. Alongside the donations from inspired Nigerians who heard his story, $3000 was given to him from the HONY Patreon.”

“Governor Ambode gift Fuad Adetoro Ogunsanya the sum of 5Million naira and a scholarship as he emerge the best graduating student of LASU 2017/2018”

tony

Lagos State Governor, Mr Akinwunmi Ambode has adopted a son, Fuad Adetoro Ogunsanya, as the best graduating student of the Lagos State University (LASU) in the 2017/2018 convocation ceremony. He survived two eyes surgeries.

Ogunsanya, who bagged 4.78 Cummulative Gross Point (CGPA) in Business Administration to emerge best graduating student had earlier in the valedictory speech narrated his Grass-to-Grace story.

He also shared with the gathering his battle with cataract that affected his two eyes and how he underwent two surgeries at the University of Ibadan Teaching Hospital (UCH) to have the eye defects corrected.

He inherited cataract from his father. said he failed his first WAEC and NECO examinations due to health challenge and greatly affected his performance in the final examination in secondary school.

He said the cataract, which initially affected one eye, later spread to the other

“My parents helped me to seek medical help but the first operation I had was not successful,” he said.

“Wheni got my first WAEC and NECO result, it was dotted with F9s, so I left home and started staying with my uncle and his wife.

“My uncle and his wife  helped me to seek medical treatment at the University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan and the operation I had as at then was successful.”

Adetoro said following the treatment, he went back to secondary school to rewrite his WAEC and JAMB, after three years of staying at home and revision.

“I was able to make four As and three Bs and scored 215 in JAMB to gain admission to LASU,” Adetoro recalled.

According to him, he had applied for Accounting at LASU but opted for business administration as because Accounting was not accredited at the time.

Adetoro noted that his academic journey was rigorous and wasn’t easy as regard the financing, even as he lost his father in 2015.

“But my determination and tenacity yielded a good result,” he added.

Apparently moved by Ogunsanya narration, Ambode said he would adopt him as a son. He also said he would be giving the best graduating student a scholarship to study at any choice school of his/her preference, anywhere in the world.

“Yours was a moving story and I’m assuring you that you can chose and study at anywhere in the world. And because you are also the best graduating student, I will be giving you, N5 million,” the Governor said.

“Nigeria Ranked as The Sixth Most Miserable Country In The World” – Forbes

tony

Nigeria has been ranked the sixth most miserable country in the world by an economist from John Hopkins University in Baltimore, US, Steve Hanke.

The ranking is titled, Hanke’s Annual Misery Index 2018: The World’s Saddest (And Happiest) Countries.

According to Forbes magazine of March 28, it was noted by the economist that Misery Index is calculated using economic indices such as unemployment, inflation and the rates banks charge on loans.

“In the sphere of economics, misery tends to flow from high inflation, steep borrowing costs and unemployment,” warns by Hanke .  The Index notes that the high rate of unemployment in Nigeria contributes immensely to its unflattering rating on the Misery Index.I

in his explanatory note, Hanke wrote that, “The original Misery Index was just a simple sum of a nation’s annual inflation rate and its unemployment rate. The Index has been modified several times, first by Robert Barro of Harvard and then by myself.

“My modified Misery Index is the sum of the unemployment, inflation and bank lending rates, minus the percentage change in real GDP per capita.  “Higher readings on the first three elements are ‘bad’ and make people more miserable. These are offset by a ‘good’ (GDP per capita growth), which is subtracted from the sum of the ‘bads.’

“A higher Misery Index score reflects a higher level of ‘misery,’ and it’s a simple enough metric that a busy president, without time for extensive economic briefings, can understand at a glance.”

Thailand and Hungary rank as the least miserable countries in the world on the 2018 Misery Index, having ranked 95th and 94th respectively of the 95 countries ranked by Hanke. Venezuela, Argentina, Iran, Brazil and Turkey lead in that order, while Nigeria is sixth.
